The Hungry Trout offers the only accessible private “fly fishing only” water on the West Branch of the Ausable River. For years, The Hungry Trout has developed lasting relationships with private landowners giving our clients the privilege of fishing waters not opened to the public.
THE DREAM MILE - The Hungry Trout enters it’s 28th season offering the only private, catch and release, fly fishing only water on the West Branch of the Ausable River. Reserved only for guests of the Hungry Trout, our Dream Mile is minutes away, limited to 8 anglers per day, and offers the opportunity to hook, land and release large fish in a scenic easily waded section of the river. Reservations are necessary due to the angler limit and popularity of this remarkable fly fishing experience and a rate of $50 per day applies.
THE BUSH COUNTRY - is the most historic and remote section of the Ausable River. It’s most famous pools and runs are in this section and were popularized by Ray Bergman in his classic book, TROUT. The Hungry Trout Resort now leases the 800 acres bordering this lengthy section and our guides have drivable access directly to its picturesque shoreline. An affordable $35 rod fee applies and a day on this water is highly recommended.
TWIN PONDS BROOK TROUT PRESERVE - is our ultimate experience. This guided brook trout experience, is offered in the spring and fall. Anglers of all ages and skill levels have an opportunity to canoe through this 600 acre area of connecting waterways and catch 4 - 5 pound colorful, feisty brook trout. Fished with sinking lines , this is a rare opportunity to experience the Adirondack Brook Trout in their native habitat. The ecosystem at Twin Ponds Preserve includes a floating bog and myriads of birds and animals. This is a full day experience for 1 or 2 anglers per boat. There is a $50 rod fee per angler added to the daily guide rate.

" The fishing was incredible. The river was full and it was a challenge to stand in the current, but it was worth it! The fish are healthy and big; I landed many fish 15” plus, with one measuring 20 inches. It was my best day fishing ever, east or west."
