The Hungry Trout Fly Shop is pleased to announce its recent partnership with central Pennsylvania's TCO Fly Shop, one of the largest shop's in America. TCO has entered a management contract with the Hungry Trout that, with four additional stores in the Pennsylvania area, will bring to our community a wealth of experience and knowledge unequalled anywhere in the Adirondacks. The shop is located right on the world famous Ausable River and is the gateway to a fly anglers paradise in the beautiful Adirondacks.
The Hungry Trout Fly Shop has been the premier destination on the Ausable River for years... known for great flies and fly fishing gear, the best guides on the river along with friendly, knowledgeable and consistenly exceptional service. The Hungry Trout Resort is the place to stay on the river and offers private access to "The Dream Mile" of the Ausable River. With two great places to dine, drink and share fishing stories the Hungry Trout Resort is a welcome home away from home to fly fisherman that travel from across the country to experience the special and historic waters of the Adirondack region.

We focus on education so anglers of all levels can use the opportunity of a guided day to combine a great day on the water with achance to brush up on fishing and casting techniques.

Rachel Finn - Head Guide and Instructor When you talk about great river guides, Rachel Finn's name is always at the top of list. Rachel's knowledge of Adirondack rivers is legendary and her clients call often and early to schedule their guide trips for the year. A fierce competitor, Rachel has been featured on the |
ESPN Outdoor Games and the OLN Fly Fishing Masters. Rachel also shares the title of a Scott Fly Rods Pro Staff Member with such colleges as Chico Fernandez and others. Rachel's Always willing and enthusiastic to share her knowledge and impart the skills learned in years of guiding and angling, and promises a "great day on the water." Rachel and her long time partner Jeff are fortunate to spend the summer's in guiding in Alaska. Their exceptional angling float trips take their clients down some of the most spectacular fly water in America. When she's not fishing, traveling to fish, getting ready to fish, taking a client fishing or teaching someone to fish, Rachel is a ski instructor on Whiteface Mountain and a passionate artist. With a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Yale she prefers to work in mixed media creating collages that often have piscatorial theme.

Jeff Kirschman - Decades of Adirondacks fly fishing experience makes Jeff Kirschman one of the Hungry Trout's most valuable guides. Jeff has been exploring the regional waters since 1970. the glory of the Adirondack region than from a boat surrounded by sparkling clear, cold mountain water. Jeff travel to the Katmai National Park with his long time partner RachelRachel during the summer months. For the past 8 years they have provided clients with remarkable river floats and the Alaska angling trip of a lifetime. His love of bird hunting makes Jeff an exceptional and skilled guide. Clients enjoy miles of natural private uplands and wooded acreage while they hunt wild birds. A talented, enthusiastic outdoorsman, Jeff is a member of the Whiteface Mountain Ski Patrol in the winter months.

Bill O'Brian - A former Navy pilot, Bill O'Brien began fly fishing for Pacific salmon and steelhead in the rivers of northern California and Oregon in 1976. For the past 30 years he has fished the great trout rivers of the West and the Northeast. Not averse to salt, he makes regular pilgrimages to Port Everglades for |
snook and tarpon fishing. Bill has been fly fishing Adirondack trout streams for the past 15 years and has guided for the Hungry Trout for the past 6 years.His patient, enthusiastic teaching style, makes Bill one of our most popular guides. His attention to detail and astute powers of observation, gleaned from years in the cockpit significantly increase your chances of angling success. During the off-season he teaches fly fishing classes for the Knowledge Network and is a member of Frog Hair Pro Staff.

Leonard Sauers - The ability to translate and impart the skills of, and passion for fly fishing developed over a lifetime is a gift. Len Sauers has "the gift". All of his clients and students benefit from the lessons he learned growing up on the limestone and spring creeks of Central Pennsylvania, Penn's Creek, Spring Creek, Spruce Creek, Bald Eagle Creek, and Loyalsock Creek |
among them. Len was an avid fly fisher by the age of 10. Tying flies was second nature and soon his handmade creations were fooling the wily native trout on the famous Pennsylvania water. His passion for fly fishing continues and he now resides in the Adirondack Mountains in constant pursuit of the regions abundant elusive browns and rainbows. The summer months mean "smallmouth" to Len and he can be found on the mountain lakes chasing smallmouth & largemouth bass in his customized Boston Whaler. Len is well-respected as a professional angler and has competed in ESPN's Fly Fishing Challenge and OLN's Fly Fishing Master series. His dedication to fly tying and expertise as a fly tier is well known. If you asked Len what he likes the best about fly fishing, he would tell you "the guiding". Helping others land the "catch of a lifetime" is always a thrill. During the off-season, Len passes the time working in his CPA practice and, of course, tying flies for the next season.

Tom Conway - His gentle manner, infinite patience and great sense of humor make Tom Conway one of the most popular river guides at The Hungry Trout. Following the "call of the fish" to the Adirondack Park 8 years ago, Tom is a respected angler, rod builder, fly tier and lure maker. His clients benefit from his remarkable attention to |
detail and broad range of knowledge and experience in all types of fishing and gear. When Tom takes you fishing you may be casting from the banks, wading streams and rivers, gliding quietly in a canoe or chasing bass and pike full throttle, but you will certainly be discovering water that is off the beaten path. Instrumental in the development and naming of the growing annual Two Fly competition on the West Branch of the Au Sable, Tom has worked diligently to promote and preserve the fishing experience in the Adirondack Park. So, if you spot a "TwoFly" New York license plate on a truck tucked away in a remote area, you have stumbled on Tom and a lucky client in one of his "secret" spots.
